Project Goals:

Fundacion Pro Bono Colombia was established in 2009 by 15 law firms that signed onto the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas. Its membership has expanded to 25 law firms, three corporate legal departments and many private practices with a combined total of over 500 lawyers participating. Through its legal clearinghouse, Pro Bono Colombia matches eligible individuals and non-profit organizations with pro bono lawyers.

This grant supports Pro Bono Colombia's efforts to enhance the quality of the legal services provided through its clearinghouse. Having exceeded the target in its strategic plan for the number of individuals and organizations served, the organization would like to focus on strategies to strengthen the culture of pro bono in Colombia. In the coming year, Pro Bono Colombia will coordinate the provision of pro bono legal assistance to at least 300 individuals and 15 nonprofit organizations. The organization plans to hold legal workshops in six communities while working to develop strategic litigation cases and legislative studies to further expand access to marginalized communities. Pro Bono Colombia will expand its pool of pro bono providers by recruiting lawyers from corporate legal departments in Bogota and law firms in Medellin.
