Securing Water for People and the Environment in the Colorado River Delta

Grantee:
Tucson, AZ, United States of America
$300,000
over 3 years
2010
Project Location:
Mexico
Project Goals:

This funding will be used to restore and sustain significant portions of the Colorado River Delta ecosystem in Baja California and Sonora. The Institute will work with its partners from local water authorities, the Mexican environmental ministry, universities and other NGOs to develop an economic rationale for dedicating additional water from the river system for ecological purposes. They will identify specific market mechanisms and regulatory policies that can be harnessed to secure flows and test their proposed solutions in several pilot sites across the two states.
