U.S. Policy toward Latin America

Organizations informing policy makers and the general public on Latin America have received Tinker Foundation support since its founding.  This was clearly in response to Dr. Tinker’s wish to strengthen understanding among the peoples of the Americas.  The current iteration of this funding category stresses the impact that U.S. policies may have on Latin America and provides assistance particularly to those projects integrating the concerns of Latin America into the discussions of U.S. policy makers.

The two themes now receiving the highest priority within this category are migration and immigration, and security; the geographical areas of interest include Mexico and the countries of Central America.

Each year support will be provided to allow U.S.-based think tanks, and occasionally Latin American-based organizations, to consider timely issues of importance to both the United States and Latin America.

It is also possible under this category to explore subjects that may not yet be of the highest priority for the region, but have the potential of becoming significant.  A letter to determine the potential feasibility of securing support during any one proposal review cycle is highly recommended.
