Violence in Guatemala: Conflict Analysis and Policy Advocacy

Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium
over 2 years
Project Location:
Project Goals:

The International Crisis Group was established in 1995 to reinforce the capacity of governments, inter-governmental bodies, and the world community at large to understand, anticipate and prevent deadly violence, and where prevention fails, to contain and resolve it. With this project, the International Crisis Group will develop an in-depth analysis of criminal violence in Guatemala, the background to current tensions, and obstacles to progress. Over a two-year period, three issues will be examined: organized crime and undocumented migration, the evolution of urban organized crime, and criminal justice after the end of the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG). Reports will be used in Crisis Group's efforts to encourage policy makers to adopt recommendations designed to combat impunity.
